Half-year Update

Hi All!

We are just past the halfway mark of the year. Also, it's my birthday!! So to celebrate my birthday and commemorate getting through halfway through the year, I wanted to give life and literary updates.

These past seven months have been busy, full of wonderous reads and momentous achievements. I was in the last semester of my Masters of Public Health Program at the start of the year. So, as of April 2022, I am officially Jasmine Donald, MPH. It's safe to say the beginning of this year was busy, but I still found time to read.

Over the past seven months, I read and listened to 51 books. Of these 51 books, 24 were audiobooks, and 27 were physical books. Of these 51 books, many genres were explored, including non-fiction, contemporary fiction, literary fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, romance, suspense, and mystery. This blog post is also a reminder to diversify your reads. Of these 51 books, I read authors who were a part of the black diaspora, LatinX community, AAPI community, Native American/Pacific Islander, and the LGBTQ+ community. Broadening your range of books and diversifying your reads make the publishing scene more equitable; it can also help you understand different people, cultures, and places. With that said, I will now give my top ten books I've read so far.

My top 3 reads were all 5-star reads and choosing which one I liked the most was hard. These novels were exquisite, and the storytelling was phenomenal. My top three reads were Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby, Olga Dies Dreaming by Xochitl Gonzalez, and Black Cake Charmaine Wilkerson. If you click the title, it'll take you to a link to the book. Usually, I would rate these books as 1-3, but they were all so good. Therefore, I will go ahead and rate the last 7.

4. Ethic by Ashley Antoinette

6. Whereabouts by Jhumpa Lahiri

7. The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna

9. Will by Will Smith

10. Somebody's Daughter by Ashley C. Ford
